Hey! I have a few years left of college, and then I plan to teach abroad in Korea.. or at least attempt! But I do have a question: I know good, reliable programs to teach abroad require the TESOL test, correct? Or the TEFL? So, which one did you take, and was it very difficult for you? I know enough to know that some of the schools you can end up in are shady, and a lot of foreign teachers in Korea get jipped, or have contract and salary issues with their contractor, causing lots of frustration. So, do you like where you're teaching, and if so, what did you do to avoid teaching in a difficult school?
ReplyDeleteIt depends on if you do private or public schools. public schools are from the government so will always keep their word, its private schools that you cannot tell because its up to the owner of the school and not the government. public school programs are EPIK GEPIK AND SMOE, you can check out www.korvia.com and they have all the information about applying etc. :)I am a public school teacher so that alone avoided issues.
DeleteHey! I have been looking into TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification. How did you get yours? I am scared of either overspending or being scammed. At this point I feel like over-researching has made me super paranoid about a bunch of programs.
ReplyDeleteHello! I really want to ask did you take an online course to get your TEFL certificate or did you take it in college. I plan on either finishing my 4 year degree or do what you friend did and study over there as well. Please reply.
